The Math Bus travels to eastern Arizona and New Mexico

Bruce Bayly joined our Pumpkin Toss colleague Brian Lapham (that's him and Nola in all their Steampunk glory to the right) at the Comic-Con in Phoenix over the Memorial Day weekend. He took the Pueblo Magnet High School's winning trebuchet with him to inspire interest in the 2012 Tucson Pumpkin Toss. Here are some photos he sent back!

Taking the Math Bus on the road

From May 13th to l7th, Bruce Bayly and Dolly Spalding traveled to Prescott and Lake Havasu City. Due to a generous grant (Grants that Make a Difference) from Unisource Energy, we were able to visit five schools: in Prescott, Lincoln Elementary with third graders; in Lake Havasu City we went to Thunderbolt Middle School (8th grade) and Jamaica, Oro Grande and Smoketree elementary schools (6th grade). We met hundreds of eager, attentive, respectful, curious students who welcomed us into their multi-purpose rooms and gyms. We all had a lot of fun and learned some fascinating science facts and concepts!

Pumpkin Toss 2012 Website

The Tucson Pumpkin Toss now has its own website:  http://tucsonpumpkintoss.org/.  Mark your calendars for Sunday October 28, 2012!  After the successful first annual Tucson Pumpkin Toss, we are already getting excited for this year's event.  It's never to early to start prototyping your trebuchet to see if you can top last year's results.
